Working parents in England can access 30 hours of free childcare per week for children aged 9 months to 4 years old. This applies from the term after their child turns 9 months old until they start school, and eligibility generally mirrors the existing 30 hours offer for 3 and 4-year-olds. To be eligible, both parents (or the sole parent in a single-parent household) typically need to be working and earning the equivalent of at least 16 hours per week at the national minimum or living wage.

Here's a breakdown of the eligibility criteria:

Age:
The child must be aged 9 months to 4 years old.

Working Parents:
Both parents (or the sole parent in a single-parent household) must be working and earning at least the equivalent of 16 hours per week at the national minimum or living wage. This equates to approximately £115 per week for those aged 25 and over, and £111.20 per week for those aged 21-24.

Exceptions:
There are exceptions to the work and earnings requirements. These include situations where one parent is on maternity, paternity, shared parental, or adoption leave, or on statutory sick leave. If one parent meets the income criteria and the other is unable to work due to disability, caring responsibilities, or limited capability to work, they may still be eligible. Additionally, self-employed parents in a "start-up period" (within the first 12 months of business) may not need to demonstrate that they meet the income criteria immediately.

Immigration Status:
Applicants must have a National Insurance number and be a permanent resident in England. They must also have recourse to public funds if they are not a British or Irish citizen.

Reconfirmation:
Families need to reconfirm their eligibility every three months to continue receiving the funding.
